Adipose Stem Cell Therapy is a form of regenerative therapy that uses one’s own fat cells, also knows as mesenchymal cells, to repair damaged tissues. The adipose stem cells are extracted from the abdominal area, like a minor liposuction, and then placed in a centrifuge. There, the components are spun at a high velocity in order to isolate the stem cells from the fat mixture. After, the isolated stem cells are mixed with platelet rich plasma (PRP) to be reintroduced into the injured area for repair. The procedure itself is minimally invasive and can usually be completed within an hour. This accounts for both the extraction time and the administration of the stem cell and PRP back into the body.
This form of therapy accelerates the healing process of acute and chronic damaged tissue but flooding the damaged area with cells that have the ability to form osteoblasts (bone), chondrocytes (cartilage), and myocytes (muscle). The platelet rich plasma that is also injected is abundant with growth factors and other cells that provide for successful tissue regeneration. In comparison to bone marrow, adipose tissue provides a much larger volume of adult stems cells. Recent studies have seen 500-2000x more stem cells in fat tissue compared to the same volume of bone marrow. Since adipose stem cells and bone marrow stem cells work slightly differently, it is important to speak with our Stem Cell Specialists to find out which one is right for you!
